MUSCAT: Acting in cooperation with ETCO SPACE (a private aerospace and artificial intelligence company based in Oman), the Youth Centre is implementing a training programme codenamed 'Oman Orbit' in the field of satellite technologies.

The programme seeks to develop the capabilities of Omani youth in space science and technology, enhance hands-on experience in the field of small satellites and link space technologies with the national priorities of the Sultanate of Oman.

The programme, to be conducted during a two-week camp, offers an integrated educational experience that begins with an introduction to the general context of activities linked to the space sector, before moving on to practical training on assembling satellite subsystems, conducting experiments related to wireless communications and the Global Positioning System (GPS), analysing Earth observation data, and concluding with the implementation of graduation projects in which the participants showcase the knowledge and skills gained during their training period.

The camp focuses on giving participants a practical understanding of the subsystems of small satellites (CubeSats), including satellite structures, power systems, onboard computing, orientation and control systems, as well as communication systems. It is scheduled to enable the participants to practically comprehend the mechanisms of satellite operation and the integration of their various systems.

It also highlights the potential of utilising space technologies in a variety of areas, including early flood warning solutions, marine monitoring systems, agricultural sector observation and combating desertification. It thereby underscores the growing role of space data and technologies in supporting sustainable development and decision-making.

In addition, the camp includes practical training that contributes to developing the skills of participants in embedded systems, sensor data collection, radio (RF) communications and geospatial data analysis — thus providing scope for combining theoretical knowledge with practical application, besides introducing the participants to the emerging space economy (NewSpace) in the region and elaborating on opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. - ONA
